Carnival Mardi Gras will be a 5,200 passenger ship and the largest ship in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet when it debuts in August 2020. Mardi Gras will feature six themed "zones", including the French Quarter, Summer Landing, Grand Central and The Ultimate Playground. The name of the ship is a throwback to the first ship of the Carnival Cruise Line, which retired in 1993. The Mardi Gras will differentiate itself from the rest of the fleet in its exterior appearance and will sport a classic navy blue hull with red and white stripes.
