SAN JUAN

As a landmark on Eastern and Southern Caribbean itineraries - not to mention a port of call for many ships to turn around - San Juan is a place where almost every cruiser, at one point or another, is going to end up. Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, and San Juan is its urban hub. The city, in general, is divided into new and old. The new includes a business district and suburban neighborhoods, concentrated with hotel chains like Isla Verde. The old is, of course, the historic city within ancient walls. Both offer many Americanisms.
