PALMA DE MALLORCA

Palma de Mallorca, a large port city on the island of Majorca and the capital of the Balearic Islands. It is Mallorca's largest city - a large and lively place, with most of the tourist action in the old part of the city around the landmark cathedral that dominates the waterfront.
The architecture of this ancient Mediterranean portion mixes Gothic, Moorish, and Renaissance styles. Palma's winding streets make way for large churches, marinas, beaches, fountains, and old castles.  So much history so close by is a perfect harbor to explore on foot. The winding, narrow streets offer many surprises, especially passages around the cathedral. This sun-kissed port is also an open-air city, with plenty of foot traffic and the opportunity to eat or relax outside in myriad venues - some (parks and boulevards) free and some in combination with visits to museums and historical sites. For sun-worshippers, the beaches are close by and the water is wonderfully clear.
